THE BAND

The Turturros were a punk rock band from Rome, Italy. The project started in 1998, when Umberto (bass and vocals) and Franz (drums), at that time playing together in a punk cover group called S.I.D., decided to write original songs and asked to Andrea to play guitar. The first name of the band was The Flips, but after they recorded a couple of songs live in studio, Andrea was not more interested.
Marco, leader of the band The Real Swinger, answered to an advertise posted on a web magazine and was also the guy who picked up the name of the band, a tribute to the italian-american actor John Turturro. With him, The Turturros started performing live and in september 1999 recorded a 9 songs demo, called "Lazy and Idiot". But just after that, also Marco decided to quit.
It was the time of Gianluca, an old friend of the company, to play guitar for the band until they disbanded in 2002. The Turturros published a new 10 songs demo, "Songs for Losers", and a 7" EP with 4 songs, "I'm Not" in 2000; a 7" EP with two songs split with the band Los Activos in 2001, and a last cd with 8 songs, called "Still Doin' Our Stuff" in 2002.
The band played a lot in Rome and around Italy, with bands like Groovie Ghoulies, Sonic Dolls, Peawees, Retarded, Brigate Rozze, Semprefreski, Strength Approach, Killtime and Popsters. The last show was in Rome, on march, 6 2002, supporting the Usa band Darlington.
After almost five years, Umberto and Franz met Marco, Turturro by real family name, and decided to come on stage again. The reunion show was in Rome last december, 21 2006... and now we're back on the map!

THEY WROTE ABOUT US...

Why can't everyone love the f-n Ramones like Italy? C'mon people, work with me! If you want a good review from me, be from Italy and love the motherfuckin' Ramones! Reviewing bands like this is a treat for me. I guess all of my dead-on reviewing and hard work pays off. I think it's so gosh darn honest-to-goodness cute when the Italians string together typical punk lyrics and spit them out like it's something fresh and amazing. Gotta love it. We got cuatro (that's four for all of my non-espanol-speaking readers) songs here, each more uplifting than the previous. Man, I'd move to Italy, but then I wouldn't be able to complain. MAXIMUM ROCK'N ROLL N. 209 OCTOBER 2000

Four short, sweet, simple, honest, punk rock songs about nothing from this Italian three piece. Reminding me also of Vindictives in more ways than one. There are no surprises here, nothing that's gonna slap you in the face and change your life, nothing that's gonna defy your current belief system, but you can't put this on and not admit that some part of you inside is not being rocked!

As you might have read in other reviews, pop-punk is alive in Italy. The Turturros, straight out of Rome are no exception. The four songs on this 7" are fast and played well. The influences are the same as the rest of the pop-punk bands so I'm not going to name them again, ok? Bottom line is that this is a good record, especially "Let's Go South" which has a great chorus.

The Turturros are an Italian three-piece that play speedy, mid-90’s pop-punk with a heavy dose of Joey Vindictive styled vocals. It’s a buzzy blast with garbled english and great lyrics about shunning societal rules and hating "all these stupids." (...) This isn’t the hookiest, most original thing I’ve ever heard, however it’s not too derivative and it’s got three chords and a punk rock drum beat, so who’s complaining?

I Turturros mi fomentano. Mi hanno sempre fomentato e continuano a farlo con questo "Still Doin' My Stuff"; che volete che vi dica? Non ci sono cambiamenti, e se speravate di vedere gli incorreggibili re del punk rock capitolino ripuliti o tranquillizzati il "Fuck you and my old friends!" (cito proprio Still doin' my stuff) è anche per voi!

NO!... E' ben suonato?! NO!... e' originale?! NO!... e' punk?! TANTO... vero, passionale, sporco e viscerale...

Nel primo (Lazy and Idiot) compare Marco dei Real Swinger.
SAUCER ATTACK fanzine #14
